Wildest Dreams What If Books

Students create a unique and beautiful tool; a small pocket sized book filled with words and images that are important and validating to that individual. This tool helps each person feel connected during stressful times. The project does not require any special supplies or skills – it can be done with just a regular piece of paper and simply a pencil or with many art supplies – that is up to the situation and the maker! We practice grounding our bodies in the present moment, and examining compliments and affirmations. Each person learns how to bind a small pocket sized book, and we then use collage and/or drawing to fill this tiny book with images and text that are inspiring and grounding to each unique person. This project can be done in between 2-4 sessions.

Process:
– We begin every session with a different grounding exercise, learning a number of self soothing tools throughout the residency.
-We learn about the power of self love, affirmations and what if questions
-We fold this unique book structure
– We fill each page of the book with meaningful artwork. Each student will have their own tiny affirmation book upon completion

About the Artist

Beth Wilson

Beth is a Northwest native and has been making art for over 30 years. She pulls materials from everyday life, relying on them to guide her and give their experience to her artwork. Sometimes her work is small and made alone; gestures of gratitude. Sometimes it is big and made in community; gestures of transformation. What it all has in common is the power to create a sense of connection; to self, and community and the planet that sustains us. Our white supremist culture has stripped us of this sense of connection, of our humanness. With each piece she is tending to our loss, cultivating connections, and strengthening routes and bridges back to our humanity.

"Beth's insight and intuition are inspiring. Her efficiency and flexibility make her a pleasure to work with." --Lisa Belt, PTA president Ockley Green Middle School
