Rivers of Stories – Tales from Africa

Habiba Addo, a native of Ghana, offers a warm, interactive, multi-cultural performance with authentic West African costume, spiced with singing and movements. From her vast knowledge of Western, Afro-Cuban, Afro- Brazilian and West African stories, she will select a retelling of stories to amuse, caution and inspire us to reach our better selves and heal our communities.

In stories like “Anansi and the Pot of Wisdom,” students will learn that knowledge belongs to all of us and each of us has something to teach. The tale of “The Elephant’s Child” is about learning how to embrace change and discovering how change can be an opportunity for growth.

The performance is spiced with songs and audience participation through call and response. Students will come away from this performance with the knowledge that our mishaps and triumphs connect and build our capacity for compassion, kindness and empathy.
