WORK WITH STUDENTS

Jess Graff is a mixed media artist who has taught all grade levels in a variety of art media. A great enthusiast of literature, natural sciences, and history, Jess believes in the power of arts integration to inspire student participation and enhance engagement. Jess is experienced in creating customized programs to meet the curricular and developmental needs of her students. For examples of possible residency descriptions, please see the list below.

-Exploring the Natural World: Students will investigate and observe natural specimen to create detailed nature-based artworks. Scientific specimen may include animal skulls, insect specimen, plant materials, and other natural materials. In short sessions students will work in pencil, pen, and ink; in longer sessions students may work in watercolor, acrylic media, charcoal, or clay. Program encourages observational skills, critical thinking, literacy, spatial awareness, and informs on natural sciences or nutritional studies. It is adaptable to any skill level or curriculum.

-Collaborative Installation: Create an installation that is relevant to your curricular studies. This experiential and process-based residency opportunity encourages student creativity, collaboration, and planning skills. Throughout the process, students will learn arts-based techniques with paint, ink, or other materials to create site specific works that directly reflect school and class-based learning goals. This is adaptable to any skill level or curriculum.

-Art and Science of Clay: Explore the curricular subject of your choice in this fun, adaptable clay residency. Learn basic ceramic hand-building skills while exploring the science of ceramics and an academic area of interest. Topics may include animal life cycles, nutritional sciences, history, literature, chemistry, and math. This residency is adaptable to any skill level or curriculum.
