Mz. Pearl’s Variety Circus Show: Juggling, magic and clown logic rule the stage!

This program offered by: Nomadic Theatre Co

Mz. Pearl’s Variety Circus Show invites children to be just that–joyful children astounded by the wild antics of Mz. Pearl. Being a clown, she can challenge the “rules of normal” in ways that open the audience to new perceptions about how to solve problems and to the experience of accepting others’ differences. The audience gets to react to Mz. Pearl’s challenges of making scarves disappear or blowing up a balloon, as their laughter and pointing are part of the show: audience reactions and engagement are a crafted part of the unfolding drama.
Juggling and magic tricks add to the students’ awe at what practice can accomplish. The acts require volunteers from the audience, which adds to the whole audience’s excitement to see classmates on stage.
Clown is an artform that has roots in many cultures. To reflect and critique the world through humor and physical antics has a rich tradition and draws upon many archetypes. Mz. Pearl concludes her show by creating a short poem about what clown is, incorporating words and ideas from the audience: a new twist on the old Q & A.
