About the Artist

Maya Ceramics and Paintings

One-of-a-kind ceramics pieces, using wheel first then alter the pieces; transforming them into animals or nature inspired pieces. Low fired/ with bright glazes and middle range too. Her Series of Spiritual animals are inspired on “Alebrijes” / Spiritual animals; armadillos, fox, and other animals use as inspiration. Her ceramics are individual and unique, making each object appear naturally imperfect with enduring value. She uses low (red also) and middle range clays; this gives her the opportunity to play with bright colors. She does the pieces on the wheel and then alter them, (cutting) adding pieces (tails, heads, etc.) to the original piece. Her love for nature has been a signature stamp that she includes in her work. Animals are another facet of her work specially armadillos, that inspire people to connect with nature and reflect her passion for nature. Originally from Mexico city, She created her business Maya a few years ago, when she was living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. After that her kiln travel with her to India, Vietnam and Chine: now after setting up her studio at home, at Portland, OR she can continue creating these beautiful ceramic pieces and encaustics.
