Exploring Shadow Puppets

Did you know that puppets have been around for over 4000 years? In this residency, students will explore shadow puppets with moving parts.

Lulu will give your students an overview of the world of puppets, and then guide students through the designing and construction of shadow puppet characters. She will also demonstrate how to create a simple shadow puppet stage.

An optional writing and performance component is available if students are given time outside of the residency to develop and revise their puppet plays.

This is a three-day residency for making the puppets only. With the writing and performance component it is a five-day residency.

This residency coordinates very well with literacy curricula, as well as with social-emotional learning and potentially with social studies units.
