Instructions

1. WEAR
When making art, wear comfortable clothes that can get messy.

2. WHERE
Find an out of the way place on a desk, table, or on the ground. Cover with cardboard, paper, old sheet or towel so you don’t mess things up accidentally.

3. FOUND MATERIALS
Places to look for items are in a recycle bin, junk drawer and even garbage. Collect things, but don’t leave them all over the place. Find a box or bag to keep them in.
● Plastic: containers, bottles, caps, rings, plant pots
● Wood: craft sticks, chopsticks, beads, skewer
● Natural: dried beans, nutshells, small rocks, seeds
● Metal: aluminum pans, bobby pins, paper clips, screws, bolts
● Glass: marbles, beads, tumbled glass chunks
● Cardboard: egg cartons, tape rolls, cardboard tubes, food boxes, shipping boxes, empty food boxes

4. TOOLS
Always ask permission to borrow them before you take them. Look for different types of hole punches and scissors. Never use a pair of sewing scissors for anything but fabric. Use a bag or box to store your tools and fasteners.

5. FASTENERS
You do not need all of these fasteners, you can work with what you have. Here are some examples of things you can use. Make sure you return them when you are finished with them.

● Elastics: different sizes
● Strings: cord, twine, yarn
● Pipe cleaners or chenille sticks
● Plastic covered wire and twist ties
● Keyholders: split rings, chains
● Clips: paperclips, binder clips, paper fasteners
● Tapes: clear, packing, masking, blue painters, duct
● Glues: white glue, tacky glue, glue stick, glue gun (only with permission)
● Store your tools and fasteners in a box or bag. Put them away after every time you use them.

Reflection

(Write in your journal or draw in your sketchbook)

● What are your favorite materials to work with?
● Which fasteners work best with each material?
● What materials are the most durable?

Extra

● Make the same object from different materials.
● Make your artwork more durable.
● Make artwork that can be outside in the weather.
