Daily Doodles

by Ashley Klump

Students will use a daily prompt to create and draw. They will reflect on each their own experiences and how to express themselves.

Learning Target

● Paper
● Pencil
● Anything else you want to use!

Materials

● I can create something with my hands with my doodles each day.
● I can reflect on my own experiences and how to uniquely express myself.

Instructions

1. Comic Strip

● Think about a memory you never want to forget.
● Divide your memory into 4 scenes
● Make a 4-panel comic of this event

2. Dual Self Portrait

● Draw a picture of yourself and divide it in two.
● On one side, show yourself the way other people see you.
● On the other side, show how you feel on the inside.

3. “Where I’m From and Where I’m Going”

● Draw two pictures of shoes.
● Fill the inside of one with drawings or words about all the things from the past that make you who you are today.
● Fill the other shoe with drawings or words of where you want to go in your life in the future.

4. Puzzle Pieces

● Cut a piece of construction paper into at least 10 puzzle pieces that can fit together.
● On each piece, write or draw an aspect of yourself that you’re proud of.

5. Circle of Control

● Spend 60 seconds making a huge scribble across a page, getting out any frustration you’re feeling.
● Cut a circle out of your scribble page.
● On the page outside of the circle, write your frustrations that you have no control over.
● Inside the circle, write some things that you’re frustrated with that you can control.

Reflection

Write in your journal or draw in your sketchbook
● Doodle #1: Why was this memory special? What are other ways you can recreate it?
● Doodle #2: What are some differences between the sides of your dual self portrait?
● Doodle #3: Can you add more pieces to the puzzle of who you are?
● Doodle #4: What steps will you take to reach the goals you put in the second shoe?
● Doodle #5: Does it help to separate your frustrations that can and can’t control?

Extra

● Make a journal of your daily doodles!
● Write about your reflections next to each doodle.
● What other activities can you do to reflect and express yourself in your new journal?
