This program offered by: Nomadic Theatre Co

Circus Arts are exciting, challenging and rewarding. These classes will inspire both individual focus and group collaboration, as students learn from each other, and how to support each other in our Circus games and activities.
Depending upon the students’ age and the space available, Circus Arts in Action and Connection will teach Chinese diabolo; stilts walking in the style used in Ethiopia, Thailand and the Netherlands; juggling (first depicted in Egyptian art 4,000 years ago); balancing in many styles; ribbon and plate spinning; human pyramid building; and clowning (a performance art form practiced around the world). While the majority of the time will be spent in movement and skills, the connections to history and the beginnings of the art form in various cultures will seek to deepen students’ experiences.
Warm ups will include Brain Gym and reflex integration exercises to help students cross the midline, calm the nervous system, and be able to balance successfully.
Residency can culminate in a sharing or performance if students have more than 6 sessions. Sharing within the class time will be integral to the lessons, helping students build their confidence to show what they know, even when it is in process (this develops a growth mindset). Workshops will focus on basic levels of skills, clown and games.
