Ballet Fairytales and Folktales

This program offered by: Oregon Ballet Theater

In Ballet Fairytales and Folktales students create original dances to beloved ballet stories, often adding their own twist! Students learn to communicate character, plot and feelings through dance…that means no words! Each residency includes a special day for sharing some of Oregon Ballet Theatre’s own retired costumes, pointe shoes and stage props. When possible, the last day of class may be an informal performance for parents and others.

If teachers desire, they may help to choose the fairytale or folktale, otherwise the teaching artist will choose from this list: Cinderella, Swan Lake, The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Nightingale.

About the Artist

Oregon Ballet Theater

Since 1989 Oregon Ballet Theatre strives to share meaningful, high-quality dance experiences with students, families and communities. We hope to inspire students to use their bodies in new and different ways through dance and connect with the community by removing physical and cultural barriers by providing greater access to dance. Our knowledgeable and enthusiastic teaching artists reach thousands of students per year. All teaching artists have had successful performing careers and are now dedicated to teaching and sharing their passion of dance with students.

"Kids love it! The extra movement opportunity is great for all students and gives them fresh eyes for learning the rest of the day... I have never seen my students, especially boys, smile SO BIG!" --1st Grade Teacher
