Haitian Folklore, Singing, and Drums.

David works to integrate the body, heart, and spirit bringing forward personal transformation through the music, dance, and folklore of Haiti. He is committed to sharing Haitian culture in an authentic and accurate manner. His goal is to create artistic connection rooted in the culture and revolution of Haiti.

Programs offered incorporate Haitian drumming, dance, singing, and folklore. David has a range of songs he can sing in Haitian Kreyol and dances with the associated drumming rhythm. He will choose which songs to present to the class based on the planning meeting with teachers.

Handouts in Kreyol and English can be provided and residencies are customized to the class format and desired level of class participation.

Residencies start with drumming and singing associated with the folklore of Haiti. David leads the students and they repeat after him. Once students start to understand the rhythms, dance can be added. All of these art forms are interconnected in Haitian culture, although they can be presented separately.

All music and dance have some description added so students understand the history and cultural context. Throughout the teaching he shares the historical origins of the dance, drumming and song, encouraging students to notice the connection between the sounds and movements and the history they depict.

David encourages questions and student engagement using a fun and inclusive teaching style. He creates an uplifting environment, where everyone wants to participate.
