Arts, Care & Connection

A partnership with Arts for Learning NW (ALNW) and the Oregon Department of Education

Arts for Learning Northwest is partnering with Oregon Department of Education and talented Teaching Artists throughout the state of Oregon to create a collection of free K-5  lessons that integrate directly with the Oregon Core Art Standards and the Transformative SEL Framework & Standards which center ideas of identity, agency, collaborative problem solving and belonging.

What do the lesson modules look like:

Each module includes a written lesson plan for teachers and a slide deck that can be used in the classroom with students and includes embedded instructional videos recorded by the teaching artists.

Lessons are designed to be completed in 60 minutes in a K-5 learning space and include a warm-up, explore, create and reflection. You may also choose to use shorter portions of the lesson modules to fit your need.

Teachers will facilitate lessons for their classroom with the artist (asynchronously) as co-teacher.

Ready-to-use modules are currently available in the resource library linked above and additional modules will be added as they are completed throughout 2025.

Free art materials for your classroom:

For the 2024-25 school year, Oregon K-5 educators implementing Arts, Care & Connection lessons can receive free classroom art materials for providing feedback from students and families through the Well-Rounded Courses Access Grant funds. Our feedback guide explains the process to gather feedback and request your free art materials!
