Where in the World?

Travel without leaving home! Where in the world do you want to go? Pick your cultural area! Explore the world’s music with attention to specific musical styles and cultural contexts then create and learn to play some simple instruments rooted in that culture but made with upcycled and re-purposed materials. This residency can be taught by one or two teaching artists.

The world is the limit! What cultures do you want to explore and create with your students? i.e. Mexico, Native America, France, South America, Hawaii, Oceania, Indonesia, Africa, India, China, Japan, Middle East, Latin America.

This residency is available in English and Spanish.

Program Requirements: If possible, internet connection to share world music audio and videos. In advance, for musical instrument making, classroom will need to collect materials to upcycle into musical instruments.

Ali-Olé

Ali-Olé is a powerful female duo who have toured worldwide as members of the Al Andalus Ensemble. Recipients of the California ArtsBridge Award and the Peoples Grammy Award, Barcelona born flamenco dancer Verónica Medina Cano and flamenco guitarist Julia Banzi join forces to showcase how cultures are connected across centuries and continents.
