Line of Place with Jen Hernandez

Students will use a variety of materials and techniques to create artwork that communicates an idea. They will choose an idea to communicate that is unique to them or one that is collective and relates to a larger community. Students will create a composition by choosing between diverse options. They will choose safe ways to use materials and choose materials to make art that best communicate their ideas. Their work will be informed by the place they are from, which holds many stories, cultures and histories.

Students will explore abstract art by reflecting on their emotions and recent experiences. They will consider how abstract artists use line, color, and shape to convey feelings and create their own abstract representations of an exciting moment in their lives

Students will learnto create a simple puppet and use it to express emotions in different settings.

Makin’ Mix-Tapes with Mo Phillips

Students will curate their own musical playlist using elements of music like timbre, tempo and vibe to match the intention they have for their playlist.

Making A Dance with Subashini Ganesan

Students will learn a Sanskrit poem and matching hand gestures, then work together using these gestures to make a dance that includes the whole group.

Making A Movement Story with Maia McCarthy

Students will select and analyze a simple text, for example idioms, to decide how they want to tell the story of that text using movement only. They will ask another classmate for feedback and decide which feedback to use to more clearly convey their meaning

Making Mayan Codices with Medicine Bear: RedStone Serna

Students will use traditional Indigenous art forms to explore and express their thoughts, emotions, and identity through the creation of a personal Codex book. They will reflect on how their intersectional identity shapes their perspectives and create visual representations of these reflections through storytelling and art.

Writing lyrics in a Hip Hop and pop music format that expresses something about your racial, cultural, ethnic, national, or religious identity.

Miró-Motions with Michele Haney

Students will observe and discuss meaning and mark making in Joan Miró's work and collaboratively create their own connections between emotions, lines and shapes. Then, students will individually create Miró inspired drawings.

Movement and Emotion with Rachael Brown

Students will learn how music affects quality of movement. They will also explore how movement and physical cues can indicate emotion in themselves and others.

Moving Like A Butterfly with Jill Giedt

Students will learn about the life cycle of a butterfly and use their observations to express themselves through their own dance movements. Throughout the lesson, students will develop a sense of individuality and learn what makes them unique.

Students collaborate to create a large mural using ripped paper, applying various elements and principles of art.

Students will learn to express themselves by creating a verse and chorus in a group. Students will explore rhyme schemes, structure and tempo while writing about their personal topics.

Object Play with Barnaby King

After a physical warm up, students will explore how objects can say a lot about who we are and how we are feeling. Building on this, they will use a personal object to create and share a short improvised performance that expresses something about themselves.

Students will find shapes in their environment. Students will transform their bodies from a growing fiddlehead fern to a mature frond. Students will draw and design an art piece incorporating a fern.

Observational Thinking and Dance with Nicole MCall

The focus of this lesson is to teach students Observational Thinking as a way to give feedback in an open-minded, curious, and non-judgmental manner. Students will create short dances based on a personal emotion, watch each other perform, then share observations and feedback to help each other see how their moves are understood by an audience.

In this module, students will explore the connection between their emotions and the world around them through movement. They will learn to identify various emotions, such as happiness, sadness, anger, and calmness, and express these feelings by associating them with the waves of an ocean—gentle ripples, crashing waves, and calm seas.

Students will explore the theme of fire and rebirth by embodying the mythological phoenix in dance. Students will practice safe dance techniques and learn choreography that emphasize dynamic and fluid motions inspired by flames and a phoneix's rebirth.

Students will learn the basics of rhythm, create their own beat as a means of self expressing their own ideas and practice playing their beat with others to create a collaborative rhythmical composition as a group.

The focus will be on self-expression, creativity, and collaboration, helping students connect with their peers through the vulnerability of sharing personal poetry.
