Sacred Spaces with Kawika Kalama
Learning Target: I can choose an idea to communicate that is unique to me or one that is collective and relates to a larger community.
Learning Summary: Students will create dioramas of reused materials to showcase one of their sacred spaces. Students will develop, explain, and investigate opportunities to be curious, open-minded, and think critically across situations and environments. They will identify a feeling or emotion associated with a place that is sacred to them or a larger community they are a part of. Students will then identify, define, and recognize the choices and contributions in promoting personal, family, and community well-being.
Arts Standard: Art: VA.1.CR1.4. Generate and research ideas for artwork that draw upon specific moods, feelings, or themes. Art: VA.2b.CR2.4. Explore art-making techniques and approaches that reflect consideration to form and structure (i.e. organizational principles and expressive features).
SEL Standard: "Standard 5: Responsible Decision-Making & Curiosity: Demonstrate curiosity and analysis of oneself and society in order to make caring choices that impact personal, social, and collective well-being across situations and environments."
