Emotion Dance with Nicole McCall
Students will create a dance improvisation using that expresses how they feel when they are doing an activity that brings them joy. As a part of this lesson students will deepen their self awareness, explore DANCE MOVES AND ENERGY as creative tools, and create an improvisation expressing different kinds of feelings.

Gesture Poems with Speaking Out Collective (Tessa Henderson and Laura Hill)
Students will be introduced to gesture as a theatre tool and how to work collaboratively in group settings. Students will explore the use of gestures to express emotion and personal identity and observe and respond to the work of their peers.

Students will explore the cultural background of Ghanaian drumming and compose their own drum rhythm to express their emotions, uniting as a drumming classroom community.

Inventions in Action with Heather Pearl
Students will learn to use their bodies as tools for acting through exercises and games. They will create characters (including objects) and use them in a scene showing an invention by a Black American. Students will be the audience for each other, developing observation skills and respect.

Students will develop the ability to coordinate dance movements with drum rhythms. Students will learn the value of collaboration, patience, and offering positive reinforcement to themselves and others.

In this lesson, students will learn some basic musical concepts, how music affects our emotions and how we can use music to self regulate. Students will also create their own rhythms and simple “songs” to express their emotions and share them with others.

Let’s Make a Book with Roberta Lavadour
Students will use the movement of their bodies to create marks on a sheet of paper. Following step-by-step instructions, they will use that paper to create an 8-page booklet, then explore the deconstructed marks, building on them to define objects, animals, and/or other forms and coloring them in.

Students will select and analyze a simple text, for example idioms, to decide how they want to tell the story of that text using movement only. They will ask another classmate for feedback and decide which feedback to use to more clearly convey their meaning
