Through games, observation, drawing, and discussion, students will name a number of emotions and find ways these feeling can be expressed and understood in their body and the bodies of others. They will further develop their ideas by creating an imagined character in their body.

They will explore different materials, colors, and images to represent their personal identities, emotions, and experiences. By combining these elements, students will visually communicate their thoughts, feelings, and perspectives on their surroundings. This project will encourage creativity and self-expression, helping them reflect on their identities and how they interact with the world.

Students will create dioramas of reused materials to showcase one of their sacred spaces. Students will develop, explain, and investigate opportunities to be curious, open-minded, and think critically across situations and environments. They will identify a feeling or emotion associated with a place that is sacred to them or a larger community they are a part of. Students will then identify, define, and recognize the choices and contributions in promoting personal, family, and community well-being.

Through the use of colorful shapes and expressive art-making, kindergarten students in our class develop important socio-emotional skills. By exploring emotions through creativity, children strengthen their social awareness and build meaningful connections with their peers and themselves. This activity serves as a foundation for lifelong emotional well-being and interpersonal relationships.

Students will identify with the character of the story through basic research and body movements. There will be a closing reflection about how important it is that a person has unique authentic stories, how it is crucial to listen to other persons´ unique stories, and how listening to our different versions brings us together as a community.
Students will create a dance improvisation using that expresses how they feel when they are doing an activity that brings them joy. As a part of this lesson students will deepen their self awareness, explore DANCE MOVES AND ENERGY as creative tools, and create an improvisation expressing different kinds of feelings.
Students will identify their mood, choose a related animal, and then compose simple animal songs with original lyrics and rhythms that reflect their mood & their animal’s behavior. With partners, students will share their compositions and reflect upon how their feelings guided their creative choices, and how it felt to create.
Students will use lyric templates to create their own collaborative songs. While identifying feelings, and ways to express them, students will explore the use of words in music.

Students will learn to use their bodies as tools for acting through exercises and games. They will create characters (including objects) and use them in a scene showing an invention by a Black American. Students will be the audience for each other, developing observation skills and respect.
Students will use a variety of materials and techniques to create artwork that communicates an idea. They will choose an idea to communicate that is unique to them or one that is collective and relates to a larger community. Students will create a composition by choosing between diverse options. They will choose safe ways to use materials and choose materials to make art that best communicate their ideas. Their work will be informed by the place they are from, which holds many stories, cultures and histories.

Students will observe and discuss meaning and mark making in Joan Miró's work and collaboratively create their own connections between emotions, lines and shapes. Then, students will individually create Miró inspired drawings.
