Poetic Kinetics: Making The Words Move

A generative poetry & spoken word writing workshop & open mic, centering self-expression, writing & performance craft, and empowering students’ authentic voice, as well as public speaking and creative writing skills. Workshop centers studying contemporary page and stage poetics and poets as writers and performers. Lesson plans include poetic craft, generative writing prompts, and a culminating open mic for new or polished work. Students have agency to decide how and if they share their work: on stage, anonymously, or not for sharing. As Jimmy Santiago Baca once wrote, “write where the fire feeds you.”
