
January Spotlights: New Roster Artists!
In January, Arts for Learning NW celebrates our new roster artists: These talented Teaching Artists joined the Arts for Learning roster within the past year.

Honoring Gerardo Calderon
Gerardo Calderón was a beloved composer, teaching artist, and multi-instrumentalist whose music and passion for cultural storytelling left a lasting impact. Born in Mexico City, he dedicated his life to sharing traditional Mexican, Latin American, and Pre-Colombian music. As the musical director of Grupo Condor and Nuestro Canto, he performed across North America and composed for ballet, film, and theater. A gifted educator, Gerardo enriched the Northwest community for over 25 years, bringing the beauty of his heritage to countless students and audiences. His music, generosity, and spirit are deeply missed.

Special Guest Lo Steele
Lo Steele is a singer, songwriter, and award- winning actor from Portland, Oregon. Lo combines traditions of soul, gospel and blues with a modern R&B flair. She released her first full length-album in 2023 entitled “Happy Girl” and her 2024 Tiny Desk Submission, “Another Life”, was recently featured in a playlist by NPR Music. Also an accomplished actor, Lo has performed in local Portland productions such as Hair, Tick… Tick… Boom!, Clyde’s, What I Learned in Paris and Passing Strange.
